INGREDIENTS

 

Ingredients vary depending on the type of soap being made. All soaps have three essential parts: fats and oils, a liquid, and lye.

Olive oil

Olive oil helps the bar of soap to harden as it cures. Furthermore, this oil is rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, which allow it to serve as a wonderful conditioner for the skin.

Lard

This fatty oil is one of the original ingredients first used in soap making. Harvested from pig fat, lard is full of saturated and monosaturated fatty acids which help the soap to become creamy and to lather.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of the most common oils used in soap making. This oil adds deep cleansing properties to the soap, while also helping it bubble up and lather.

Goat milk

Goat milk is a wonderful, natural alternative to the harsh chemicals present in most store-bought soaps. Rich in vitamins, minerals, lactic acid, and fats, goat milk is full of beneficial properties ideal for soap making.

Coffee

It’s more than the average cup of Joe! Coffee has been found to provide numerous health benefits for the skin. Filled with nutrients and antioxidants, coffee is a great way to start the morning whether brewed as a beverage or scrubbed as a soap!

essential oils

Essential oils are an all-natural way to add fragrance to soaps. Extracted from plants through a process called steam distillation, each essential oil comes with their own unique health benefits and aromas.

    3. Reducing inflammation
    4. Calming acne breakouts

Lye

Lye has been used in soap making for hundreds of years. Also known as sodium hydroxide, lye is used to create a process known as saponification. During this process, the oils break down and harden resulting in a solid bar of soap.

exfoliants

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead cells from the surface of the skin. Using natural exfoliants, such as coffee grounds, oats, and dehydrated citrus peels, the skin will be deeply cleansed. Furthermore, these exfoliants will administer vitamins and nutrients for a bright, healthy glow.
